Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have blood in my stools, I understand the red flag this is. I’m 50 and have a Colononscopy scheduled. But it’s not for another month. I’m trying to not be concerned so I’m wondering if I had cancer in my colon wouldn’t there be other signs? The blood has been infrequent and although I can’t remember when it started it seems it’s been a long time. I did not get concerned originally since I thought it was hemroids and strain.if I had cancer wouldn’t there be other signs, especially given the long time this has been going on. Thanks

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. I understand your concern. Basically changes in bowel habits with weight loss in a short period & fatigue are symptoms pointing to colon cancer. Blood in stools a long time.. could be due to some benign growth/intestinal infection or infestation /diverticulitis. Still it's necessary to exclude cancer .. if doubted for.... Please do consult your treating doctor &get the colonoscopy preponed Thanks.
