What Does Blood In Stool While Suffering From Pancreatic Cancer Indicate?

Father in law with pancreatic cancer (contained) until recently (spread to lower intestine) is hospitalized d/t vomiting black liquid and experiencing blood in stools. Shockingly, he appears almost healthy to the untrained eye. Are these symptoms of end stage pancreatic cancer?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pancreatic cancer can cause blood in stool. It is because the cancerous growth eroded the small intestinal wall and cause bleeding to the bowel. Blood in stool usually indicates an advanced stage disease and probably an inoperable lesion. Consult a gastro surgeon immediately and get an MRCP down to look for the extent of the lesion and to check whether it is operable or not.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
