What Does Blood In Urine While Suffering From A Kidney Stone Indicate?

My 87 year old ex husband had a kidney stone (not his first) with bloating. It was removed. Afterwards he had a catheter and blood in his urine. He went to the urologist today and was told to come back next week to have his prostate scraped. He has not run this by his primary doctor. What are the consequences, prognosis and I would like to know whether this is a common procedure for an 87 year old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the current condition of blood in urine with history of kidney stone indicate infection in the urinary system with or without residual stone fragments in the urine.

Consequences will include pain, burning in micturition, fever, low hemoglobin and others.

Prognosis is excellent once treated completely.

Procedure of prostate scraping is common for 87 years old and go ahead with the same without panic.

Wish this will help you.

Take care.
