What Does Bp In Elderly Male As 195/100mm Hg Suggest?
What would the diagnosis be if a 54 year old type A male's blood pressure was 195/100 mm Hg, which he said was typical of what he had experienced during the past two years. Blood gases and electrolytes were normal. The ECG showed no arrhythmias but did demonstrate a left axis deviation.
Hello This is Dr Adil Thanks for asking the question. BP of 195/100 is high. Your patient is hypertensive. This BP needs immediate control. High blood pressure is a strong risk factor of many other serious diseases that involve vital organs, such as brain (stroke), Heart (hypertensive heart disease), Kidney (hypertensive nephropathy) etc.
His renal status should also be determined, a fundoscopy should be done to check the hypertensive changes in the retina, his lipid profile should be done and the cause of hypertension should be established.
Anyhow, what this patient needs is immediate control of his blood pressure with the help of medications, and behavioral changes.
You are welcomed to ask more questions. Kind Regards. Dr Adil

High blood pressure is a strong risk factor of many other serious diseases that involve vital organs, such as brain (stroke), Heart (hypertensive heart disease), Kidney (hypertensive nephropathy) etc. The uncontrolled hypertension already caused left ventricular hypertrophy, (hypertensive heart disease, left ventricular hypertrophy, secondary to hypertension) that has caused left axis deviation. His renal status should also be determined, a fundoscopy should be done to check the hypertensive changes in the retina, his lipid profile should be done and the cause of hypertension should be established.
