What Does Breaking Up Of Red Blood Cells With Megakaryoblastic Leukemia Indicate?

My Mom is busy going through chemo for megakaryoblastic leukemia. At present her blood tests have revealed that her red blood cells are breaking up. She is currently on Gleevic tablets. Please can you tell what the breaking up of the red blood cells means?

I wonder if she is not turning to myelofibrosis in which there are fragmented red blood cells. peripheral examination of blood smear can identify the cause followed by bone marrow biopsy.
