Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Breathing Difficulty After Insertion Of A Chest Port?
I have recently had a port placed in my chest with a tube, in preparation for chemo therapy. I am having concerns with the tube placement. When I cough, it seems like air goes into my trachea (it expands) and it is harder to breath until it goes down. I get first chemo treatment tomorrow and am concerned if I am nauseous, I will suffocate. Could the tubing have been placed in the incorrect artery?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Though it is unlikely that the port has been placed incorrectly. It would be best to speak to your doctor before receiving the medication to allay any concerns that you may have.
I hope this helps.
