What Does Burning Sensation Behind The Legs Indicate?

I am asking this on behalf of my cousin. We just returned from a trip to Ohio State University Neurological Department. On September 9, 2017, my cousin went for a 5 mile walk which she was doing daily as she was preparing for a marathon. After she returned home, about 10:00, she started having a very acute burning sensation going down the back of her legs. She tried for 20 minutes to find a comfortable position to relieve the pain and then when it went away, she attempted to get up and she fell to the floor, unable to get up as she was extremely weak from the waste down. She called an ambulance and they took her to a typical (not research) hospital. After a few days, they told her she had GBS. She also had no bladder or bowel feeling. She had a HSV sore a week prior to that, but the neurologist told her that had nothing to do with her issue. After a week of IVIG treatment she was sent to rehab, where they told her she had dropped foot syndrome on her right foot. They provided her with a brace and gave her therapy to assist her in transfers and gave her daily exercises to complete. After a couple of months of no improvement, she was again given IVIG treatments in her home. She is today, no better than she was on September 9, when this occurred. Within 20 minutes, without any prior weakness or illness, other than the HSV sore, she was completely unable to feel anything from the waste down from the backside of her legs to her feet. She did and still can feel her quads and knees, although the sensitivity is weakened. They are once again, treating her with IVIG infusions 1 time a week every 3 weeks for 6 treatments. The neurologist from OSU that we saw today told her she even doubts that this is GBS! I m just wanting to ensure that she is getting the best care possible as she is young and was the picture of health before all this started. She was on no medications and has only had an appendectomy and a hysterectomy. There was an episode when she was 18 that she had weakness on her right side. They admitted her to the hospital and they never determined what the cause of the weakness was and she returned to her normal health after a period of time. Any ideas??
