What Does Burning Sensation In The Throat Indicate?

Hello. I have had what I describe as frequent heartburn for quite awhile now. Though it is not in the chest it is more in my throat. I have taken Zantac (sp?) and other over the counter meds to try to tame the beast. I am home with the flu today and after throwing up around 3:00am that burning sensation in my throat just won’t go away. I am drinking ginger ale then switched to Gatorade and now just water as it is very irritated. Any suggestions? I know I should probably go get scoped but I am a tad afraid of the results....stupid I know.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, it seems to be an acute upper respiratory tract infections signs early on and using losenges or saline water gargles may help. Anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine alongside anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
