Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
During a painting project, I had a rag with paint thinner in my back pocket. 2 hrs. later I felt a burning sensation. By the time I got home and looked at the skin, it was dark red and badly burning. I showered, washing and rinsing the area often. Then put an anti- biotic cream on it. Someone brought me a petroleum based salve for minor burns. After several hours, it is still burning and red. Is there something else I should do? Bobbi Elmore
You seem to have been doing the right things. Washing the area, using some petroleum base dressing for burns ect. I would say that you need to change the dressing at least daily or earlier if it is getting dirty. Depending on the size of the burnt area and the depth or it, it may heal within the next couple of weeks. If you notice that the area is not painful but is numb and not much sensation is on the burned area you will need to see the doctor as this is a sign of deep burn. You will need to see the doctor even if the redness spreads beyond the burned area or the pain is getting worse in 3-4 days instead of improving.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
