Hello I m a 48 year old female, and just had a physical and I had a carotid test done and my doctor said mine came back at a 70% percent I asked her what what normal she said 100% and that it was non emergent but she wanted me to see a cardiologist...So Whats a 70% mean??? that I m 30 points away form being normal??
Carotid artery disease occurs when fatty, waxy deposits called plaques clog your carotid arteries. Your carotid arteries are a pair of blood vessels that deliver blood to your brain and head. Carotid arteries can become stiff and narrow over time due to a gradual accumulation of plaques, which can restrict blood flow and result in carotid artery disease. A common, noninvasive test used to check for carotid artery disease is a Doppler ultrasound. 70% which u have mentioned it means your carotid arteries have 70% blockage and most of the reports will give extent of blockage and not the opposite of this. Your cardiologist will decide treatment options with you, which may include lifestyle modifications, some medications and also in severe cases (in patients who have >70% block) a surgery called Carotid endarterectomy or Carotid artery stenting. Be positive and wait for your doctor opinion. All the best
