What Does Chaffing In The Groin Area Be Treated?

Hi, I started to to feel a little chafing in groin area on Wednesday , I started to use a little Vaseline on the area. By Thursday night I had blisters and getting worse. I went to see my gynecologist on Friday and she said it is probably severe heat rash and to use lots of desitin on the area. She thought it was from working out in the humid weather. I had such a hard time sleeping last night, itching and burning and its worse. I can t sit and can hardly walk. I m so irritated and all blisters. Nothing internal Dr. said. I just called again BC I can t stand it and they called in Rx for VALTREX. If that doesn t help go to ER. I have a dermatologist appointment on Monday if I can last. I m 62 years old and in good health, no meds at all. I m at wits end with the discomfort. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time. Just an FYI, I was in the hospital 3 weeks ago with an ischaemic colitis attack so they re thinking and spent 3 days on 2 heavy duty antibiotics by IV. Could that have something to do with this problem. I have never experienced any thing like this ever.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As the skin lesion is involving only of the groin area, the relation with IV antibiotic seems unlikely. Yes, it can be in concern with possible central line insertion in groin area if done during hospitalization 3 weeks ago for ischemic colitis. It can be a skin manifestation of immune mediated event of colitis. Management will be consisting of

1) Local care with sterile dressing.
2) Systemic antibiotic ( IV or oral ) as per the clinician concern.
3) Maintenance of hydration.
4) Analgesic coverage with injection or tablet.
5) Control of blood sugar.

Hope I have answered your query.
