What Does Chills And Shivering In The Body Indicate?

I have been cold all week due to company that was very warm. During the night last night I felt so cold it was like frigid and I was shaking so bad I could hardly walk. Finally managed to get warm with lots of coverings. My daughter tells me it s borderline hypothermia. What do you think? I was in that state for half an hour or longer!

You would need to rule out infection first, if this is not likely then blood tests to check for thyroid function would be appropriate.

Infection is a common cause of chills as the body tries to 'reset' its temperature. It can occur in common infections such as the cold or flu or gastroenteritis or can occur in more serious infections as well.
You may need to monitor to determine if there are any signs or symptoms of infection present.

In addition, low levels of thyroid hormone can cause cold intolerance which may also be a cause of chills.

Blood tests such as complete blood count and thyroid function tests, would determine if either an infection or thyroid disease is present.
