Hi have recently had an operation were I had a titanium plate fitted to repair my eye socket and this has been done twice under general as the first time it was to big and caused sight problems however, now two weeks on I have started to cough up thick black mucus which looks like strands of old blood. Is this expected or should I see my GP? Thanks Ian.
It can be acute respiratory tract infection but any sinuses or internal trauma or oropharyngeal area must be ruled out by an otolaryngologist or maxillofacial surgeon. It may need oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
