Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
78 year old male(post heavy radiation for head /neck cancer 1999) difficult endocardectomy in April 2017, post operative complications include unable to swallow and speech difficulties. I believe there was injury to the hypo glossal nerve during surgery. he declined steadily, developing a pleural effusion and ended up with a feeding tube placed directly into the small intestine. testing shows he is silently aspirating on saliva and now coughing up wads of blood. he is schedule to have his left (blocked artery) stented on Friday but I m not sure he will survive. Where do you suppose the blood he is coughing up comes from?

What Does Coughing Up Of Blood Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. So far as symptoms narrated here, I suspect the coughing up of blood from erosion of small intestine from feeding tube most likely. I would like to assist further at anytime. Regards.
