What Does Delayed Period Along With Cramps And A Small Clot Indicate?

I am a week late for my period which never happens. I have taken pregnancy tests and all have been negative. I have been having some symptoms such as tender breasts and cramping once in awhile. Today my husband and I had sex and afterwards we both noticed very light pink blood. There was a small clot that came out then no other blood has been noticed since. What could be going on?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pregnancy tests detect HCG hormone. This hormone is normally detectable by day 11 to 14 after conception.

If the test was done after this time, then it is likely accurate and you are not pregnant at this time.
If this time has not passed, then you should consider repeating the test at a later date.

There are other causes of delayed period such as : (1) emotional distress or illness
(2)thyroid disease
(3)physical illness
(4)high levels of a hormone called prolactin
(5)side effect of medication
(6)polycystic ovarian syndrome

If the test is truly negative and you continue to have irregular periods then you may want to be assessed for one of these conditions. It would require blood tests and physical examination

Imaging of the uterus and related structures by ultrasound may also be needed as well.

I hope this helps
