Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a mitral valve repair 11 years ago and a maze procedure at the same time. I had an ablation Feb 2014 and a cardioversion in March 2014. I went into severe Afib in May 2015 and am scheduled for a cardioversion in September. I received my heart summary in the mail today and it said I have severe bi atrial enlargement and something about my QSR widening? Am I a dead man?
Cannot say in your particular case. The site is for general information. The news is not great, but not different than what you already know. Some stress caused the top part of the heart to be distorted due to high pressures--a mitral valve problem can do this. This part of the heart is where the wiring for rhythm is situated so distortion of it disrupts rhythm and will require a pacemaker at some point in most with it. This part of the heart is not involved with most of the blood pumping, so if the big part of the heart pumps okay, then, people don't notice that much of a problem from it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
