What Does Diarrhea Along With Abdominal Cramps And Appetite Loss Indicate?

After lunch today, (12 pm) I had severe diarrhea, cramping and I had to actually run to the bathroom. What scared me is that after the second time there was bright red blood mixed with the diarrhea, twice. I have no appetite and Im still experiencing cramping. I have been drinking a lot of water to keep hydrated. Is this serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Diarrhea and cramping you had after lunch today is due to food poisoning. Bright red blood mixed with diarrhea could be due to having frequent bowel movements (bm). Please send a photo to verify if it was blood or any in-digested food instead.

To speed up recovery, I advise to:
- continue drinking lots of fluids (water, juice)
- take only yogurt to stabilize intestinal flora
- take tasectan to stop diarrhea; probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- take oral rehydration salt (ors) to restore the lost electrolytes

If no improvement, and if blood will appear again, go to ER for immediate evaluation and treatment.

Wish fast recovery.
