What Does Difficulty In Bending The Knees Indicate?

Hi I am a 52 year old male. I had a bad fall about 3 weeks ago on to my right thigh. I thought it may be just a strain but I cannot bend my knee and am struggling walking especially stairs and getting in and out of the car. The leg feels like a dead leg and I have had an x-ray which didn t show any broken bones. Should I try for an Mri as it is not healing. Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
The fall you had may have damaged the muscles of the thigh area. Also it could have injured the ligaments of the knee or the medial or lateral meniscus of the knee joint. MRI would be able to diagnose all these injuries. Till you get it done and consult an Orthopedic surgeon, the best thing you can do to prevent further injury, and even initiate healing is to give maximum rest to your right lower limb. The best way is to use a 'Walker', and be ambulant with your left foot, taking strain off from the right limb. Then after MRI, Doctor can diagnose the condition and advise appropriate management.
