What Does Difficulty In Swallowing Indicate?
My grandfather is 8 years old he suffered from Paralysis attack last December since then he is bedridden since last month is having problem in his throat is having problem in swallowing food items and even more in drinking water or any other liquid he starts coughing only while drinking and eating even though his chest is clear he has a tendency of drinking less water for last one year what is problem and what tests are required for detecting it thank you My grand father is 80 years old.He suffered from paralysis attack last December. Since then he is bed ridden. Since last month , he is having problem in his throat ,he is having problem in swallowing food items and even more in drinking water or any other liquid. He starts coughing only while drinking and eating, even though his chest is clear.He has a tendency of drinking less water for last one year. What s his problem problem and what tests are required for detecting it.

This can happen in Achalasia Cardia where difficulty in swallowing occurs mainly in liquid than solid food. But if he is having solid food and liquid swallowing difficulty then esophageal cancer should also be kept in mind as he is aged too. So radiology examination would be helpful for diagnosis.
