Hi
Thanks for posting your concern on HCM.
I appreciate your concern for your son for the elevated CK and CK-MB.
Incomplete data: Exact level of CK and CK-MB not given.
In a 6 yr old child with no apparent
heart disease, the elevated
Creatine Kinase and Creating Kinase-MB are suggestive of skeletal
muscle disease.
Damaged muscles release enzymes, such as CK and CK MB into the blood.
If CK-MB is elevated and the "relative index " (ratio of CK-MB to total CK) is less than 2, it suggests that skeletal muscles are damaged.
If CK-MB is elevated and the "relative index" is more than 3, it suggests the heart disease.
Inflammatory muscle diseases (myopathies) are rare.
Most commonly seen in young children between 5 to 10 yrs of age.
Causes include infection, muscle injury due to medicine, inherited diseases that affect muscle function, disorders of electrolyte levels, and
thyroid disease.
You are advised to visit the
rheumatologist for further evaluation may be your son needs a muscle biopsy to confirm or rule out muscle disease.
Hope this information could be of great help to you in getting the treatment for your son.
Wishing him good health.
