What Does Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase And GGT Levels Indicate?
I am a 41 year old female with possible autoimmune disease. I am also 7 months post chemotherapy treatment with RCHOP for stage IV lymphoma. I have recently had an abnormal ect showing a septal infarct and my blood work shows elevated serum alkaline phosphatase of 172 and elevated serum ggt. I know these levels are indicative of possible heart and liver disease. I do drink wine but I am not an alcoholic. During the summer I probably drink 2-3 glasses of wine about 3 or 4 nights a week. Do these test results indicate a normal bodily reaction to chemotherapeutic agents or am I at risk for congestive heart failure?

Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows: 1. Elevated alkaline phosphatase and GGT indicate bile duct injury. 2. GGT is very specific to alcohol related injury 3. You need to avoid alcohol and the levels would return to normal within 2-3 months.
Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
