What Does Elevated White Blood Cells Indicate?

My Dr. Did some advanced blood work, after finding that my blood platelet were high. The results showed high white blood cells, she sent to a pathologist and has now made an appointment for me to see an oncologist, not for cancer. For blood problems I am curious as to what they may be looking for.

Hello dear, I really appreciate your concern.

Elevated white blood cell count may be associated with an infection or inflammation. Or, it could indicate that you have an immune system disorder or a bone marrow disease. A high white blood cell count can also be a reaction to medication or stressful conditions. Higher platelet may be due to bone marrow disease. You haven't mentioned your absolute WBC and platelet counts, any drug history or any recent infection history.

Your doctor may be wanted to rule out bone marrow disease. Oncologist can decide whether you need bone marrow biopsy or not.
