What Does Enlarged Ventricles In MRI Report Suggest?
What do the results of MRI mean for 75 year old man with Parkinsons? The ventricles, cisterns, and sulci are diffusely enlarged, consistent with marked parenchymal volume loss. There is no evidence ofacute infarct or ischemia. No intracranial mass or hemorrhage is seen. No midline shift or herniation is noted. No evidence of hydrocephalus. There is patchy T2 hyperintensity of the periventricular white matter which may represent mild small vessel ischemic changes. The brainstem is also involved.
MRI findings suggests age related cerebral cortical atrophy. Due to atrophy, brain parenchyma shrinks and due to this sulci and gyri becomes prominent and ventricles get space for dilatation.
There is also patchy T2 weighted hyperintensities in periventricular white matter of brain. It may be related to ischemic changes resulting from involvement of small blood vessels. Ischemic changes resulting from blood vessels changes in diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia. So,you need monitoring of conditions that leads to ischemic changes like hypertension, altered lipid profile, diabetes mellitus so that further progression of disease can be halted. You need investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile. Proper treatment depend upon findings.
You also need follow up scan.
Other findings in brain are normal.
