What Does Excessive Sleep Imply In Fever?

My nephew has been feverish for the past 7 days and now he s been sleeping 23+ hours for the last 2 days. He s very weak, only taking a few fluids once he s awake. No other symptoms except fever. Is the excessive sleeping normal? All tests negative for viruses, dehydration and even mono. What could be the cause? Is meningitis an option? Concerned.

The excessive sleepiness is not normal. I would consider this almost like a coma. It could be meningitis or encephalitis. If he's been feverish and hardly drinking any fluids, it's likely he's also dehydrated, regardless of the test they did before. Take him to emergency and get him checked for problems in the central nervous system, such as meningitis or encephalitis. Hope this helps.
