What Does Extreme Fatigue When Having Crohn S Disease Indicate?

A person with Crohns Disease who is suddenly experiencing extreme fatigue, is it possible that their potassium could be low? I m being told low potassium does not cause extreme fatigue but I know chronic diarrhea can cause fatigue as well as low b12, vit.D and magnesium. Also does calcium help absorb vitamin D?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello!

Fatigue could be related to different possible causes in this clinical situation: electrolyte imbalance, vitamin D or vitamin B12 deficiency, inflammation, dehydration, anemia, etc. For this reason, I recommend consulting with his attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:
- Complete blood count, PCR, ESR
- Kidney and liver function tests
- Blood electrolytes
- Vitamin D and vitamin B12 plasma levels
- Thyroid hormone levels

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
