What Does Extreme Pain Below The Ribcage On The Right Side Indicate?

Hello, I have extreme pain in my left side right below my rib cage. I injured that area earlier this afternoon in a small dirt bike accident. My pain is an 7-8 on a pain scale. I m not sure if it s my spleen or a bruised rib. It hurts when I breath in but hurts a lot more-terribly when I cough, bend over or use that part of my body in that area. It hurts so that it takes my breath away. I do not see any bruising or redness in that area. That area looks fine actually, however, it hurts terribly when I do any movements that uses that side of my body. Should I be concerned that it might be my spleen or is it just a bad internal bruise and I should let it take its course? Or should I seek medical treatment?

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of a contusion that may be on your lung. It is unlikely to be your spleen as you have not been bleeding internally or you would have had other symptoms.

You could get an x-ray done to see if your rib is fractured, but that does not alter the treatment much.

So, in my opinion, rest the side, use cold compresses 2 to 3 times a day and you could take a Diclofenac medicine for the pain. If all this does not help over the next few days you could get it further evaluated.
