What Does Fibro Hazy Opacities With Atelectasis Of Upper Lobe On Chest X-ray Refer To?

Hi, doc! My husband's chest x-ray result is fibrohazy opacities are seen in both apices. PTB, both apices with atelectasis of the left upper lobe. Whta does it mean? Is this very serious and if so, how long would be the span of time to treat this? Thank you!

Thanks for writing to HCM

Fibrohazy opacities is most likely due to infection.
He need proper clinical examination and investigations.
Firstly he should be given a trail of antibiotics.
He need investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Sputm for AFB,PCR for TB if needed.
Atelectasis(collapse of lung part)may be due to many reasons like proximal obstruction,retained secretions etc.
You should consult your doctor.If it is due to pneumonia then it will get resolved by antibiotics but if it is T.B then full course treatment of six months should be taken
