What Does Flair Signal Hyperintensities In The Subcortical, Juxta-cortical, And Periventricular White Matter Mean?

Had MRI on the brain and the finding said there are multiple punctate greater than 15 nonspecific T2/Flair signal hyperintensities in the subcortical, juxtacortical , and periventricular white matter. What does that mean? I don t understand what it means

Hi,

These hyperintensities are mostly seen in elderly patients and generally thought as age related wear and tear of brain. They’re more common in those who have high blood pressure but they can develop in those who have normal blood pressure as well. You need to consult physician to get your blood pressure done if not already. He may start tablet aspirin. Be assured, other than this issue there’s nothing to worry about.
