Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Fluid Discharge From The Skin Of A Person Indicate?
Husband is disabled, bedbound and lately his legs have been leaking fluid under his legs.. looks like it s coming from his pores in his skin. Why is that? What can we do to stop it? He does take a water pill every few days for the water retention in his legs..
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
It looks like the fluid retention of his legs has worsened causing the fluid to leak out. This is called dependent oedema. Sometimes, the lymphatic drainage system (similar to blood vessels) also leak. Are the legs red and warm to touch? If so there could be an infection.
Management is by elevation of the legs, compression bandages, increasing his water tablet dose and if any infection is present he needs an antibiotic. I would advise you to see a doctor, so that he can be assessed and proper treatment given as if he is going to have leg elevation and have compression bandages, his doctor must make sure that there is no extra burden on his heart.
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you
Regards Dr Sunita Sayammagaru
