What Does Fluid Filled Bowel Loops In Scan Of Pregnant Woman Suggest?

Dear doctor, I am 29 years now 30 weeks pregnant, i had a scan two days back and the report read as few mildly distended fluid filled bowel loops. no gross distention noted. May not be of significance They have asked for a repeat scan after a month. In case the problem persists, the baby might need corrective surgery. Kindly explain the problem and is it major to be worried abt. In case baby needs surgery, will it be a major one.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Dilated bowel loops in the fetus can be due to congenital anomalies like anorectal atresia, anal atresia, cloacal malformation, or hirschsprung disease. In this the bowel dilatation increase over time.
If it is so , then a major corrective surgery will be needed to correct the problem.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
