Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 13 year old daughter has constant abdominal pain, she has had blood test, ultrasound and a CT scan. She has a small kidney stone but they have reassured me that would not be causing the pain. The only thing that showed up was fluid in the pouch of Douglas. What does this mean and what treatment should she be doing?
Hello! Thank you for writing us here. Pouch of Douglas is also known as The rectoutrine pouch. It is the most dependent part of the peritoneum. It is basically the space between the anus and the posterior part of vagina. Having fluid in it means that duo to some infection/ trauma/ or mostly peritonitis, some body fluid could get collected there. It could be drained with a syringe. And for the kidney stones, I would recommend having lots of water. Because its a small stone and its for a young child I don't think medications would be required because of their side effects.
