What Does Fluid Retention After A Tracheotomy Indicate?
Hello, My Father is in LATC and has a tracheotomy. He has several issues including retaining fluids. The physicians gave hime Albumin and he had a severe reaction within minutes after injection. We almost lost him. He had high fever, rash, chills, nausea...etc. Please let me know if some people actually have allergies to this drug. If so is there an alternative?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Joy Dutta's Response
Hi,
Fluid retention after a tracheotomy can indicate a number of things. One possibility is that the patient is experiencing congestive heart failure, in which the heart is unable to pump blood effectively and fluid builds up in the body's tissues.
This can be caused by a variety of factors, including high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and problems with the heart's valves. Another possibility is that the patient has developed pneumonia, which can cause fluid to accumulate in the lungs and make it difficult to breathe. In either case, it is important to have further in-depth consultation with your healthcare professional for further evaluation and treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Joy Dutta, General & Family Physician
