What Does Green Stool While On Metformin Indicate?
I recently was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and have been taking Metformin 500 mg twice a day since 12/06/2017. I also take 300 mg Bupropion once a day for the past 2 years. I have switched to a low car diet and noticed that my stool has turned a dark Green. I am not eating Green veggies all the time. It s the weirdest thing to me because I have never seen this before. I keep reading that dark Green stool is a sign of pancreatic Cancer ad I m a bit freaked out. I do not have diarhhea. I used to have a bowel movement just about everyday til I started the Metformin. Now, i am lucky if I have one every 3-4 days. Is the Green stool normal? Is it a side effect of metformin?

What Does Green Stool While On Metformin Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Possibly the green stools are caused by metformine. This is a common side effect of metformine, but it s usually accompained with diarrhea. There are many causes for green stool starting from dietary food, vitamins, alcohol, spicy foods, or some other important conditions. If the green stools are ongoing, are acompained with fever, lliquid stool, or black stool, or constipation, you should consult your doctor. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
