Hi,

Leaving the belly button unclean can allow harmful bacteria to overpower the helpful ones and cause an infection. Any swelling or bulge, fever or vomiting should be ruled out.

Antibiotic creams can be used.Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and gently rub the surfaces inside your bellybutton after which use a fresh one dipped in water to avoid any dryness due to alcohol.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
