On 28 Jan 2917, my hematocrit level was 39.4. On 20 July 2017, it was 43.9. Prior tests have always been normal. How serious is this new level of 39.4 and what are my treatment options I am a 82 year old male and never had any serious health issues.
The hematocrit measures the volume of red blood cells compared to the total blood volume. Its level should be 40 to 54 in men. Yours is marginally lower. It should be taken in the context with other blood tests like haemoglobin which are not available through your email. As for this test on its own I dont think you need to worry about this and no treatment is needed in your case.
Kind regards
Dr Paul Zammit
