What Does High Fever And Contracted Lung In X Ray Report Indicate?
my father s age is 70. His esr is 118. He is having high fever and cough for last six months. He underwent prostate glands operation in May. He has a past history of typhoid also. The X-Ray report shows his one lung is contracted. What does this mean?
Hello, Thanks for consulting HCM. ESR is an indication of some chronic infections, some parasite infection and some Systemic diseases where it rises to significant amount. But the level of 118 is too high and there is possibility of having tuberculosis. The other indicator is X-ray which shows collapsed lung, fever and cough for that long. I would suggest to get hold of a chest physician and get evaluated, he may suggest of a CT scan of chest and sputum test. Such a long standing fever and cough has to be evaluated soon. Do not consider his age as deterrent - and get it evaluated and if found positive - it can be treated completely, and also he would be symptom free in a week of starting the treatment. Wishing for his quick recovery. Dr Sanjay Mishra.
