Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Hypertrophy Of The Left Ventricle In ECHO Report Suggest?
I am a 42 year old fit male. BMI 23. Non smoker. Non drinker. I have a loud grade 2 left sternal diastolic murmer. QT interval slightly wide. Occasional syncope. Echo showed hypertrophy of the left ventricle. Heart 30% enlarged. Hx of heart disease in family. Blood pressure and cholesterol all good. Pulse at rest 65. Cardiologist said it s not clinically significant. Is this correct or should it be reviewed periodically?? I appreciate you do not have my full medical history but any input would be welcomed. Thanks Simon
Yes, I agree with your cardiologist that it is not clinically significant. Overall, I see that you are in good health with a BMI of 23, non smoker, non drinker, normal blood pressure and cholesterol level, normal resting pulse rate of 65. Yes, you need to periodically get it reviewed at 6 monthly intervals. The changes you have mentioned in the echo are negligible and expected for your age of 42 years. Do not be worried. I suggest you to follow healthy eating with fresh vegetables and fruits, and regular aerobic exercises like walking, cycling, swimming, etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
