What Does Inflammation On The Feet Indicate?

I am a 60-year old female somewhat overweight. I have recently gotten an inflammation of my feet, mostly below the ankles. It has happed pretty quickly, taking only a few days to become very uncomfortable. I have some swelling and pain of about a 7 on a scale of 10. My wrists are also affected, however only in a minor way. My doctor placed me on a diuretic to no avail. I have no other symptoms of heart disease and no history of heart trouble. Testing for diabetes is negative. Kidney function is normal.Any ideas regarding what this could be?

Hello, Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. Such a swelling could imply a few things. Renal or heart problems. In case that is ruled out, then i suggest go in for a thyroid function test from blood fasting 8am morning. Decreased thyroid function could lead to weight gain and swelling in the body. We call it myxoedema. Other things could be hypoproteinemia. Can get your serum proteins albumin checked from blood. Hope i guided you well. Thanks.
