What Does It Mean By ALT(GPT)-46 U/I In A Blood Test?

I just had a blood test this past week and all the results were good except my ALT (GPT) and AST (GOT).My ALT (GPT) was 46 U/I (scale from 10-37) and my AST (GOT) was 42 U/I (scale from 10-37).I asked my doctor what this is and what this means and he just told me not to worry, that it's OK.I would never the less like to know what these mean and how I can make any improvements in my heath.

Your SGPT is borderline high along with SGOT . SGOT and SGPT are two of the most useful liver enzymes which indicate inflammation or infection of liver, although the SGPT is more liver specific than is SGOT.there is some inflammation in liver.Your doctor told you not to worry because the rise is very slight it may be associated with fatty liver or with alcohol consumption However you must repeat it after a week and see if there is a rise and if higher then you must consult a gastroenterologist and get yourself examined and if required ultrasonography has to be done.Take care!
