What Does Itching In The Arms While On Opiate Medication Indicate?
it come to my attention that the more my gf takes her pain med (opiates) the more itchy she gets. now she has a raised hard itchy area on her arm that after scratching will bleed and weep clear fluid as well. based on other symptoms i believe her liver is causing this and we ll have to get this checked out. my question is, once you are having these symptoms and if in fact the liver has been affected can the damage be reversed and/or treated or is damaging a liver like damage to the brain and can t be fixed. thanks
See I do not know which doctor would have prescribed her opiates to cause so much of reaction.
Yes, opiates do cause itching without damaging the liver but is she has used the medications like this that also would have caused the damage to the liver.
You need to get her liver enzymes checked to know the function of it, serum bilirubin levels should be noted.
If she is jaundiced, then take her to be examined by any doctor. I don't what condition can make her take such painkillers.
Ask her to stop those medications or get a change of medicines like paracetamol, ibuprofen, diclofenac, etcetera, all these are better.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
