What Does Itching In The Vagina Indicate?

For about a week my vulva has been itching. The past couple of days it has gotten a little worse and when I wipe after using the bathroom it feels like pin pricks everywhere. I ve also noticed a tiny amount of yellow/cream colored discharge (abnormal color for me) that does not smell, Could this be a yeast infection?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [gynecologist]and do a lab examination of vaginal discharge to confirm what type of vaginitis it is.

2)Discuss with your Doctor about [metronidazole] or [Tinidazole] for a full course.

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Try to avoid baths, hot tubs and whirlpool spas. Rinse soap from your outer genital area after a shower, and dry the area well to prevent irritation.

2)Don't use scented or harsh soaps, such as those with deodorant or antibacterial action.

3)Try to avoid irritants. These include scented tampons and pads.

4)Wipe from front to back after using the toilet. Doing so avoids spreading fecal bacteria to your vagina.

5)Don't douche. Your vagina doesn't require cleansing other than normal bathing. Repetitive douching disrupts the normal organisms that reside in the vagina and can actually increase your risk of vaginal infection. Douching won't clear up a vaginal infection.

6)Try to use a latex condom while doing sex.

7)Wear cotton underwear. Also, wear pantyhose with a cotton crotch. If you feel comfortable without it, skip wearing underwear to bed.

Hope that helps
