What Does Itchy Area With Rashes Around The Incision Area For Gallbladder Removal Suggest?
I had my gall bladder taken out 6 days ago. The top of my stomach/abdomen area has been itchy the past 2 days and now I have a rash that goes from one side to another. I thought it was due to the incisions healing but it s above the incisions and am concerned it may be something else? What could it be?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Itching and a rash around the incision site is common. It could be due an allergic reaction to the adhesive tape or skin disinfectant used during the surgery or infection.
Avoid touching the area. you can try applying compresses with luke warm water to the affected area to relieve itching and discomfort. If there is any pus oozing from the site of rash, then it could be due to infection. It is important to contact your surgeon or primary care physician to have the area examined and determine the best course of treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
