Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, i am currently 20 years of age and have been experiencing a jelly like substance in my semen for as long as i can remember. Reading online I've seen two explanations 1- is it normal and 2 it is some form of bacteria. Not sure which explanation is correct i am coming to you for help and an explanation.
Hi, The jelly like substance what you are talking about could be semen viscosity which is completely normal. After the ejaculation, semen coagulates immediately and becomes coagulum( viscus fluid) which helps to keep semen inside vagina and after 15 to 20 minutes it is decoagulated by PSA enzymes present in seminal fluid. This liquid semen goes and travels inside vaginal wall to fertilize the ova. So,this jelly is actually nothing but only a viscosity. Still,if you have any doubt about infection or hematospermia( blood in sperm) etc.You can go for semen examination. If you are otherwise healthy then no need to worry as this just completely normal. Thanks.
