Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have lost my sense of smell for the last two years. Many tests were done but did not reveal anything in particular. Certain shots or medication seems to bring the smell back but for much shorter time that they are intended. I seem to be always congested on one side of the nose.
As per your query, you are experiencing loss of smell which seems to be due to nasal polyp, nerve dysfunction like olfactory nerve and could be dental infection.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order CT scan, nasal endoscopy, blood test and physical examination and may prescribe antibiotics at least for 10 days along with anti-inflammatory medicines.
Maintain complete hygiene of oral and nasal cavity. Do nasal saline rinses. You should visit neurologist once as well and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder if it is due to nerve dysfunction.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
