Propylthiouracil is an antithyroid drug used to treat hyperthyroidism and multi toxic nodular goitre and Agranulocytosis is a potentially life-threatening side effect of propylthiouracil therapy and occurs within 3 months of starting the therapy, so fever, sore throat, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, [ pancytopenia] may also occur, so in my opinion, it should be discontinued in consultation with your attending doctor and the patient bone marrow indices should be obtained. 2. Propylthiouracil may cause hypoprothrombinemia and bleeding, thus monitoring of prothrombin time [PT] & INR should be considered during therapy with the drug, especially before surgical procedures. PS. Stop taking propylthiouracil and call your doctor at once.
