Hi! my 3 year old son was tested 3 weeks ago for CBC. He had a low WBC 3.7 which is due to fever and cough. Went to hematology and said to test after 2 weeks. I ve checked it yesterday and it was still low which is 3.5. RBI and platelets are within normal range. Had checked peripheral blood smear and no abnormal WBC seen with normal RBI and platelets. What does it mean? Should I worry? My next check up will be on June 28. Thanks
WBC s are white blood cells. They are soldiers of our body. In infection they fight with the organism and kill them. So usually in infection from bacteria wbc will increase. Viral infection tend to supress bone marrow so that wbc s are low. And once viral infection subsides wbc tends to come back within normal limits.
