What Does Metallic Taste In The Mouth Indicate?

My son in law has a metallic taste in his mouth, on his lips and says his skin (fingertips) also have metalluc taste. He was painting a room yesterday, can this be the problem? Also there were electricians doung work on the electrical system as well .. any connection to that

Thanks for the query..

Metallic taste in mouth after painting can be due to paint fumes that he must have inhaled and also the particles of the paint might have settled on the tongue causing a continuous metallic taste..

Also if he is in the same room then the continuous smell can give a bad taste and smell..

Do not worry as gradually the taste and smell will subside..

For now it is advisable to gargle with hydrogen peroxide solution in water..
He can dip a soft toothbrush in the above solution and clean the tongue.
Use a tongue scraper to clean your tongue..
Do warm saline gargles..

If the symptoms does not get better in a week or worsen consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..
