What Does Mild Diffuse Annular Bar In L4/5 Minimally Indenting Thecal Sac Mean?
Hello I had a ct scan done on Monday the result that came back was L4/5 mild diffuse annular bar minimally indenting thecal sac. Exiting nerve roots not encroached upon and facet joints appear normal. Everything else is straight forward but I wondered if you could give me information on the findings as work cover Dr was not helpful and gave me nothing thank you
I need some more information about your symptoms for better explanation. Spine comprises vertebral bodies with posterior arch. Each vertebra has foramen between the body and arch, all of them form spinal canal through which spinal cord passing through. Spinal cord is covered by the membrane called as thecal sac. In between the vertebra is the vertebral discs for movements and support the spine.
Annular bar is the term used for disc herniation or osteophyte growth from the vertebral body. It may be the ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament running along the posterior aspect of the vertebral bodies. This bulge may sometimes pushes the thecal sac which inturn compress the spinal cord. Compression of the spinal cord affect the distal nerve supply.
Spinal nerves are extending from the spinal cord for supplying the distal structures through the intervertebral foramen between the vertebral arches. Bulging disc or osteophyte may compress the spinal nerves which causes radiating pain the areas of nerve supply. Treatment depends on the symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
