What Does Mild Prominence Of Ventricles And Sulci Mean?
what does this mean? There is a mild prominence of the ventricles and suici This is symmetrical and felt to be due to underlying cortical atrophy. There is some attenuation within the deep perventricular white matter and centrum semiovale suggestive of microvascular ischemic changes.
The brain surface shows a lot of markings. At younger age these are shallow and after the age of 60 years they become prominent. This is an acceptable finding in the elderly and is a sign of normal aging.
The microvasscular ischemic changes are also seen in the elderly and more in those who have diabetes or hypertension. This is due to the decrease in flow of blood through the small channels of brain. This is not a serious condition but if occurring before 60 years, it needs further evaluation to find out any other cause.
