What Does Moderate Atelectasis On A Chest CT Scan Report Suggest?
I am a 48 year old woman and had chest pain really bad and ended up in ER. Did chest ct and found moderate atelectasis and some kind of thickening. I don t have the results with me, I am at work. I m worried because I don t smoke, but my dad had lung cancer.
It is very understandable, with your family history, to be worried about the possibility of lung cancer. This is not as likely however in a person who has no history of smoking. In addition, if there was a lung cancer mass present, the CT scan should have detected it.
Atelectasis refers to collapse of an area of the lung. It can occur in different conditions such as : (1) foreign body in the lungs (2)mucus plug (3)infection
You would likely need further imaging such as an MRI or bronchoscopy (a scope looking into the lungs).
I hope this helps and wish you the best
